Posted on 31 December, 1983 in Extinct

Year Last Seen:

1983

Comments:

This species formerly occurred on Guam, but became Extinct in 1983. Predation by the introduced brown tree-snake was the cause of its extinction.

Habitat:

It inhabited forest.

Causes:

Its rapid decline to extinction was due to the depredations of introduced brown tree snake Boiga irregularis (Savidge 1987).

Distribution:

Myiagra freycineti was endemic to Guam (to USA), where it was common until the 1970s (Jenkins 1983). However, it plummeted to extinction (Collar et al. 1994) in 1983, along with most of the island's native birds (Jaffe 1997).
